Shallow Trench
This shallow trench was dug under fire the morning of June 26 by some of Captain Benteen's men. Only three or four shovels were available, and much of the digging was done with knives, hatchets and mess gear. Dead horses and mules were dragged up and laid on the parapet as added cover. These trenches have been resstored to their original dimensions.
